Nadine on KGO Radio, 810 AM, Tuesday, Jan. 25, 9-10 pm.
I'll be on KGO, the #1 station in the market, this Tuesday night. They've already asked me "Where do bands play live music around the Bay Area?" We all know the regular clubs, like Slim's Great American Music Hall, Café Du Nord, The Independent, Red Devil, 12 Galaxies, and Bimbos, but what about the neighborhood joints? Please email me back telling me where you play in the Bay Area, and I'll try to get some plugs in during the hour. Give me your genre of music in the subject line. Remember, I won't have a lot of time and I already have my music picked out that I'm going to play, so don't send CDs. We'll do some phone questions too, so call in if you want. This will be big fun. KGO is generally conservative talk radio, so help me shake things up on the AM dial!
New 49er Coach Mike Nolan Understands Imagination
In my book Hot Hits, Cheap Demos , I write about the necessity of having a good foundation for your live shows. Quote from page 64- "When a band has a good foundation and is not worrying about how they are playing onstage, how they look onstage and how they sound onstage, then it frees them up to have significantly better shows." For all you Niner fans out there, new coach Mike Nolan basically said the same thing about football, in this Thursday's SF Chronicle:"If you don't have structure in the building and throughout, then everyone is uneasy. It's very difficult to use your imagination when you have other things on your mind". Now, that's the truth! Never underestimate the value of preparation and practice, in life, music and sports to free up your mind so your creativity can really blossom!
Independent Music World Series @ 12 Galaxies on Feb. 3rd
I'll be at the Disc Makers Independent Music World Series at 12 Galaxies on Feb. 3rd to watch the following bands vie in a national contest: Tosa, Zun Zun, Bang Sugar Bang, Awake and Alert, The Grannies, and ALO, Animal Liberation orchestra. Show starts at 8 pm, tix are $10. These bands are from a variety of Western states and wildly divergent genres... just reading the bios on the 12 Galaxies site is a trip. Should be a blast at a great venue.
Wisdom from Martin Luther King Jr.
" We must all learn to live together as brothers or we will all perish together as fools. We are tied together in the single garment of destiny, caught in an inescapable network of mutuality. And whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. For some strange reason I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. And you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be." Martin Luther King Jr.
I've thought of Dr. King quite a bit this week. This is a quote I shared with my hospice volunteers tonight. Be at peace, all. Till next time, look upon the world with a kind eye.
